Cold Weather Shelter

Dear CHEP members,
We need a coordinator for the Laundry/hauling piece of the Cold Weather Shelter. This person would be responsible for recruiting help for the following two tasks: 1)hauling mattresses and luggage on Monday, Dec 22, at 8am. This will probably take 2-3 hours of time, as well as setting up the furniture in the chapel area and sleeping area. It will take some strength, so I am thinking the majority of these volunteers should be teen boys and men. 2) Doing the laundry (NOT the blankets) including sheets and towels for 25 beds (they are thin and twin size) and then hauling them to the next church BEFORE 5:30pm the same day. I am thinking CHEP would be the ideal group to find a coordinator for this area.
See Cold Weather Shelter document for more details.
If you are able to lend a loving hand, please contact Amy Chai

Homeschool Speech and Debate

News on the homeschool speech and debate group from Brenda Crowe Croweb@verizon.net

We will be meeting in the YOUTH SUITE at Chapelgate.
The middle schoolers and high schoolers will be doing the Youth Leadership program sponsored by TOASTMASTERS. Judith Anne who is the coordinator for Dist.18 Youth Leadership will be teaching the program. Judith Anne helped us out last year and we are happy to have her back with us. It is an 8 week course with a graduation ceremony for the participants and their families upon completion of the program. We will be starting this week Oct. 9th, Thursday from 7-9. We will be meeting the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.
We will be charging a fee of $25 per child. If your child chooses to participate in the debate program with Amy Chai and Rob the cost will be more $50, this covers materials and enrollment fees for the various competitions. Those that will be debating will continue to meet at The Chais home from 7-9 on the 2nd and 4th Thursday as well. Mr.Rob and Ms.Amy will continue working with the debate kids.
Please make your check out to Brenda Crowe. You can log into the homeschool speech and debate website thru yahoo. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/homeschool_speech_and_debate/

BSO Concerts

It’s time to sign up for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s mid-week orchestra concerts for youth. These concerts take place at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore City. Easy to follow directions are on their website and they have a parking garage ($5 last year) right across the street. This is a good chance for your children (and you) to hear a world class orchestra at a great price-$6 each. The concerts are 35-45 minutes long-depending on what age group you sign up for. BSO does not give a discount for large groups so this year we are not sending a group order. If you are interested, you can find more information and order at www.bsokids.com. These concerts are popular and fill up quickly so sign up soon if you are interested.

Fall Co-op update

CHEP Co-op is ready to roll! Please make your $36.00 ART check out to "Teddy Richardson" and bring it to her October 3rd.

The $5.00 Preschool payment should be placed in the CHEP box between now and October 3rd. This should be made out to "CHEP" with the bi-line of "CHEP preschool crafts".

See you at the Atrium!

Co-op News

Fall Co-op is ready to roll! All of the other classes are filling up nicely, with teachers getting ready.

We still have room for one more leader in our World Language class. If you know someone who would like to share their foreign language talent for one of the co-op Fridays, please contact Diane Lutz.

Due to lack of interest, there will be NO theater option available for either age group-- maybe in the spring?

The class information sheets will come out with the Tuesday Messages on September 16th with details about fees and materials. Fees are due by the 21st-- put them in the CHEP mailbox in the church workroom.
