Fall Co-op 2009

Hello to all!
CHEP Fall Co-op starts October 2nd. We have another great 6 weeks of Fridays planned. Remember: It's 12:55-3:00 at the Chapelgate Pres (newly decorated!) atrium.

Margaret Radcliffe will be refereeing a PE unit with flag football. Moms, bring your sneakers! If you have a nerf football, please bring that, too.

Teddy Richardson will be leading another super art class. There is a $30 fee, plus a small supply fee. That money will be due to Teddy on the first day.

You asked for it; you got it! We will be doing a formal Science Fair/Scientific Method unit for all grades. Our first ever CHEP Science Fair will be held Nov 6th!

Please feel free to invite all of your homeschooling friends. (There is a $10 fee for non-registered CHEP guests.)

Registration forms are in the CHEP box in the church workroom. Please leave your form in the CHEP box, or bring it to the CHEP meeting on Monday, September 21st at 7:00.

We are looking for science teachers. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me right away. After Co-op Clubs (ACC's) are now being formed for those who would like to stay and play after 3:00. If you have any small goup ideas- like legos or puppets or dolls or board games, please let me know.

Looking forward to seeing you all in one place again,

Diane Lutz, 410-489-7487

Learners Permit Law Change

Law Changes Affecting Maryland Learner's Permit and Provisional License Holders

Effective October 1, 2009, Maryland’s laws regarding Learner’s Permits and Provisional Licenses will be changing. This notice is designed to help holders of these products understand the impact of those changes.

Learner’s Permit Holders:

* Must hold the learner’s permit for at least nine (9) months before being eligible for a provisional license. The nine (9) month period will be restarted should the person be convicted or granted probation before judgment (PBJ) for a moving violation. *
* Must be at least age sixteen (16) years and six (6) months before being eligible for a provisional license after holding the learner’s permit for the mandatory nine (9) months.
* Must still complete the Maryland Graduated Licensing System requirements and have at least sixty (60) hours of driving practice with someone at least age twenty-one (21) who has held a driver’s license for at least three (3) years to be eligible for a provisional license. At least ten (10) of the practice hours must occur during the period beginning thirty (30) minutes before sunset and ending thirty (30) minutes after sunrise. A practice driving skills log must be signed by an individual certifying the practice driving requirements were fulfilled.
* Under the age of 16 must submit a completed Learner's Permit School Attendance Certification form. This form must be validated by a school official or authorized home school coordinator prior to applying for your permit.
* Under age eighteen (18) are still prohibited from using a wireless communication device (including a cell phone) while operating a motor vehicle, except when contacting 911 for an emergency. Violations may result in a suspension of your driving privilege.

*Please note that learner’s permit holders who have not obtained their provisional license by October 1, 2009 , WILL BE required to hold their permit until they reach the new nine (9) month minimum.

Contact Laurie Thomas if you need a CHEP signature on the MVA form DL-300 i.e. you have a student under 16 who wishes to apply for their Learner’s Permit. You will need to print the form at home and fill it out first.
